Leak testing fire extinguishers and components is imperative to insure that the units do not lose pressure at a rate that will cause the fire extinguisher to fail within its normal life expectancy. A variety of equipment and instruments are used, from handheld sniffer leak detectors to fully automated chamber leak test systems. Select a category below for more application details, test method descriptions and applicable leak testing equipment.
Helium Vacuum (HV): An automated method where the test part or test fixture is evacuated to full vacuum while helium is introduced to the opposite barrier of the part.
Multi-Gas Vacuum (MV): An automated method using a tunable mass spectrometer where the part or test fixture is evacuated to full vacuum while the desired non-helium tracer gas is introduced to the opposite barrier of the part.
Multi-Gas Sniffing (MS): A manual method of sniffing a pressurized part using a variety of instruments specifically designed for non-helium tracer gases such as refrigerants, hydrogen and SF6.
