Many state and federal regulations for chemical and gas storage containers require that companies verify that containers and packaging are safe and leak tight. In addition to environmental concerns, loss of product and customer satisfaction are other reasons to leak test packaging. Different leak testing methods can be used depending on sensitivity needed and production capacity. Most plastic or thin wall metal containers are not suitable for vacuum methods and must be tested at low pressures. For more information see Packaging Testing using vacuum.
For applicable products and systems select a category below.
Helium Sniffing (HS): A manual method of sniffing a pressurized part to detect helium escaping a leak.
Air Testing (AT): A variety of automated test methods using air as the test media for detecting leaks by pressure decay or mass flow.
Helium HATSTM (HH): A patented (U.S. Pat. No. 7,905,132) automated method of capturing and accumulating helium in an enclosure (evacuated to partial vacuum) surrounding a part pressurized with helium.
