Vacuum Potting, also known as vacuum encapsulation, uses vacuum to encapsulate or encompass a part or product with a potting compound. This process is often used to protect products from moisture, contaminants and mechanical damage.
A common practice is to place the product into a mold, the mold is then filled with a resin until the part becomes covered to the necessary level. Vacuum draws the air out of internal cavities, forcing the liquid resin into all internal spaces. The potting process can be performed in vacuum and several molds or parts can be placed in the chamber on a rotary table to facilitate potting one part at a time. Viewing the process is easily achieved through a clear acrylic vacuum chamber door.
